Breaking: Heavy Gun Battle In Akwa Ibom As Militants Attempt To Take Over Government House

No fewer than 100 militants today, Tuesday, August, 16, 2016, invaded the Akwa Ibom state Government House in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital in a violent protest over entitlements.

The militants had arrived the Government House located in the state capital, demanding that their names be listed in the amnesty programme.

The heavily armed militants also demanded to see the state governor, Udom Emmanuel with immediate effect.

However, violent broke out when these demands were not met as the militants began to protest violently, leading to break down of law and order around the Government House.

Meanwhile, in a bid to bring law and order to the environment, officials of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) tried to disperse the militants with tear gas and firearms.
