The National Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, speaking during the inauguration of the party NEC in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), today, Wednesday, August 17, 2016, suspended the election into its National Executive Council (NEC), despite the continuation of its National Convention holding at the Sharks stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

With the new development, the National Convention of the party is to decide on appointing a new caretaker committee to chair the affairs of the party or renew the tenure of the Makarfi-led caretaker committee, whose tenure expires this weekend.

Meanwhile at the meeting, the Minority Leader of the House of Reps, Leo Ogor moved the motion for election into the national offices to be suspended and it was seconded by voice vote after which the majority carried the day.
